Building good men starts at Christ Church Grammar School
By Kids in Perth, 29 Jul 2020
When it comes to education and the early years, a hands-on learning approach, coupled with intentional learning has been shown to be highly effective.
Set within a warm and nurturing environment, the team at Christ Church Grammar School believe that their Early Learning Community’s focus on this, promotes learning, interactions, a sense of agency and wellbeing amongst Pre-Kindergarten to Year 2 boys.
Dr Steven Males, Head of the School’s Preparatory School regards intentional learning opportunities and incorporating a play-based approach as important during these early years of development.
“At Christ Church, we understand that young boys need to be immersed in hands-on learning experiences, enabling them to explore, question, collaborate, think critically, problem solve, communicate and discover new knowledge,” says Dr Males.
“Research in child development shows that it is an effective way for boys to develop the basic knowledge and skills needed to grow mentally, physically and emotionally.” Other ways in which the School supports the inquisitive learning style of boys include:
- Intentional teaching – a focus on literacy, numeracy and investigation skills
- An early years focussed curriculum – laying the foundation for boys to make sense of concepts in ways that are meaningful and relevant to them
In 2019 the School opened a new state-of-the-art Preparatory School (experience their virtual flythrough), featuring indoor and outdoor spaces designed to positively impact boys’ learning – and teachers who are skilled at igniting a spark of curiosity in each and every boy.
Boys in the Early Learning Community enjoy spending time by the banks of the Swan River as a key component of the School’s early childhood programs. The School’s River Precinct situated in Freshwater Bay, Claremont offers boys safe and convenient access to the river throughout the year.
Flexible day options are offered for Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten.
