Celebrate Australia’s first Video Game Console Museum with your family
By Marnie Adams, Contributor @ Kids In Perth 16 Sep 2021
Every West Aussie rolls their eyes to stereotypes of WA being the Wait Awhile state or... Perth being Dullsville? But there’s something the rest of Australia can’t take away from us, it’s our state and city being home to The Nostalgia Box... Australia’s first video game console museum!
If ever questioned by anyone, here's the Google search screenshot to prove this fact!

What makes The Nostalgia Box special?
Firstly, it’s an incredible collection of video game consoles and iconic titles curated over many years by the Museum’s founder that tells the story of how video gaming consoles and, naturally, games came to be and evolve over time.
Everyone learns something from the great looking displays and interesting information cards. Exhibit items include video game consoles from as early as the 70s through to the 2000s, weird and quirky carpal tunnel inducing controllers and, in some cases, period packaging that have somehow survived the test of time or Mums of yesteryear!
Got a question? Friendly, knowledgeable, and video game passionate staff are nearby to answer questions from curious minds.
As you stroll through the exhibit, in amongst this Aladdin’s cave of video gaming, is a mural of video game royalty that gets young and old in the mood for video games!
Nostalgia Box’s video gaming area is a magical space of buzzing CRT TVs and, in some cases, working retro period consoles playing looping menu screens that are just inviting you to play, relive and share your childhood with your child.
Atari? SNES? NES? Megadrive?
Sonic? Donkey Kong? Mario? Contra? … Pong?
It’s all there, waiting for parents, grandparents and children to experience together.
Since WA and Perth became home to the first video game console museum in Australia, this cool concept has spread, the challenge now is for ours to remain the best in the country by supporting this local business.
The Nostalgia Box is located at 1/16 Aberdeen Street, Perth WA.
Feel like The Nostalgia Box is something you wish to experience this weekend as a family? Looking for an interesting birthday party idea?
