Newman College, located in the suburb of Churchlands in Perth, Western Australia, has provided students with a high-quality education for many years. Whilst the Newman College teachers and staff are extremely proud of the efforts of all their graduates, some have achieved global recognition in their respective fields!
One of their more well-known alumni is Formula One driver Daniel Ricciardo (Class of 06’). Daniel’s eight Grand Prix victories place him as one of the most successful drivers in the turbo-hybrid era. Daniel reflects on his time at Newman College and the values that have stayed with him;
“Newman College is the only school I ever went to. Family spirit has remained central to the way I’ve lived my life and I was supported here is pursuing my dream”.
David McAllister AC graduated from Newman College in 1980 and went on to become the longest serving Artistic Director and Choreographer in the history of the Australian Ballet. David has received many accolades for his contribution to the arts including becoming a member of the Order of Australia in 2004. When asked to reflect on his time at Newman College Andrew stated;
“My time at Newman College is where I learnt resilience and perseverance which set me on the path to achieve my dreams…It is great to see how the artistic life of the school has grown and the encouragement for its young artists to shine”.

Another of our notable graduates is none other than Perth Boxer Danny Green, who is a proud member of the Class of 1990.
After competing as an amateur boxer in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Danny won four professional boxing world titles across three different weight divisions.
“I was a Newman College kid who had a wild dream of becoming champion of the world, I set about achieving this dream by forging a reputation as a relentlessly hard worker”.
Virtual Tour | St John Learning Hub
The most recent award-winning project being the $8.5 mil Secondary school upgrade which saw a vision for state-of-the-art learning facilities come into fruition with the St John Henry Newman Learning Hub that opened at the commencement of the 2021 school year.
Of all the accolades for achievement in the fields of science and medicine, none may be more prestigious than that of the Nobel Prize.
Newman graduate Professor Barry Marshall (Class of 1968’) was awarded this most notable award in 2005, however, this was not the only significant achievement from Barry as he then went on to be awarded West Australian of the Year (06’) and Companion of the Order of Australia (07’).
“Be curious, the greatest discoveries are made by people asking questions”.

About
The Learning Hub Project sees the oldest buildings at the Marcellin Campus, Blocks C and W, redeveloped.
It's the culmination of a planning process that commenced in 2016 with the commissioning of Newman College's Capital Development Plan.
Major Capital Development Project started in Term 4 2019.
Extensive planning has happened over the last three years that included an Educational Brief developed after the 2016-2017 community consultation of staff, students and families. This Brief and subsequent Design reflects Newman College's Vision for Learning Shine through Discovery – Let your light shine (Matthew 5:16).
The new Learning Hub encourages agility, movement and flexible learning environments to support a range of formal and informal learning activities, and provide opportunities for connections between year groups, staff and the broader community.
The Learning Hub will be a resource for children in Years 3 – 12 to enjoy. In particular, it provides flexible learning spaces, break-out areas, presentation zones and library resources that will service this broader student cohort.
The Learning Hub will provide focus for the College by joining several existing buildings in both function and circulation.

The Learning Hub incorporates:
- Library space & quiet meeting areas inside C Block
- New atrium over Marist Court
Senior study areas - Group meeting spaces and upgraded toilets under W Block
Classroom extensions and refurbishments in C Block on the upper floors - Bridge connecting C Block and W Block
- Roof covering the entirety of Marist Court
These spaces provide opportunities for informal gathering of students, connection and movement to the forecourt and Chapel for large gatherings, space for informal learning and technology resources, as well as direct pathway system to Lavalla via a new bridge.
The grand stair from Founders Court into the Learning Hub will allow for students to access the Learning Hub from both sides.
