Newman College is embarking on a once in a generation development that will see its Pre-Kindy to Year 12 community integrate into a single, cohesive campus.

All learning and specialty areas of the primary school are being rebuilt to accommodate state of the art teaching and learning practices in line with the College’s ‘Vision for Learning, Shine through Discovery – Let your light shine’ (Matthew 5:16).

Over the next 2 years, this staged development will create the following spaces:

  • New Year 3 to Year 6 building
  • New administration building
  • Redevelopment of existing buildings to accommodate Kindy to Year 2
  • New specialty areas including library, art, music, and STEM areas
  • New Pre-Kindy building
  • New outdoor play spaces

Integration of the primary campuses onto a single site allows for greater access to the College’s considerable facilities including its heated 50m Olympic size swimming pool, 600-seat auditorium that features dance studios and instrumental rehearsal spaces, as well as, multiple playing fields.

Furthermore, having a single site will allow for the consistent involvement of teacher leaders throughout the Pre-Kindy to Year 12 community.

Over the past several years, significant investment has been made by Newman College to modernise and enhance the current learning environment for all students.

The most recent award-winning project being the $8.5 mil Secondary school upgrade which saw a vision for state-of-the-art learning facilities come into fruition with the St John Henry Newman Learning Hub that opened at the commencement of the 2021 school year.

About

The Learning Hub Project sees the oldest buildings at the Marcellin Campus, Blocks C and W, redeveloped.

It's the culmination of a planning process that commenced in 2016 with the commissioning of Newman College's Capital Development Plan.

Major Capital Development Project started in Term 4 2019.

Extensive planning has happened over the last three years that included an Educational Brief developed after the 2016-2017 community consultation of staff, students and families. This Brief and subsequent Design reflects Newman College's Vision for Learning Shine through Discovery – Let your light shine (Matthew 5:16).

The new Learning Hub encourages agility, movement and flexible learning environments to support a range of formal and informal learning activities, and provide opportunities for connections between year groups, staff and the broader community.

The Learning Hub will be a resource for children in Years 3 – 12 to enjoy. In particular, it provides flexible learning spaces, break-out areas, presentation zones and library resources that will service this broader student cohort.

The Learning Hub will provide focus for the College by joining several existing buildings in both function and circulation.

The Learning Hub incorporates:

  • Library space & quiet meeting areas inside C Block
  • New atrium over Marist Court
    Senior study areas
  • Group meeting spaces and upgraded toilets under W Block
Classroom extensions and refurbishments in C Block on the upper floors
  • Bridge connecting C Block and W Block
  • Roof covering the entirety of Marist Court

These spaces provide opportunities for informal gathering of students, connection and movement to the forecourt and Chapel for large gatherings, space for informal learning and technology resources, as well as direct pathway system to Lavalla via a new bridge.

The grand stair from Founders Court into the Learning Hub will allow for students to access the Learning Hub from both sides.

In 2005 the Primary and Secondary schools united to form the current K-12 College administered by one Principal.

Newman College is a congregational-owned College governed by Marist Schools Australia.
