Life is too short to not risk it all.
La bohème is the story of friends and idealists, living freely as they pursue their dreams, tangled up in love’s highs and lows. At the heart of the story are Rodolfo and Mimi, filled with youthful hope and a love which could last forever but their optimism is soon shattered as they face poverty, illness, and loss.
Beautiful melody and spine-tingling performances envelop you in the tenderness of young love and make you reflect on the deeply moving moments in our lives that unite us all.

How to ... Opera
First time to the Opera?
Here are some tips to really enjoy the experience!
- How to Choose an Opera: Research different opera productions, find one that interests you. Look into the storyline, music style, and themes to make an informed decision.
- How to Understand the Plot: Read a brief summary of the opera's plot before attending. It'll help you follow the story and enjoy the performance more.
- How to Dress: While there's no strict dress code, many opera-goers dress up for the occasion. Opt for semi-formal attire or your Sunday best to immerse yourself in the elegant atmosphere.
- Arrive Early: Arrive early to avoid any last-minute rush or being locked out of the show until an appropriate break. It also gives you time to explore the opera house and settle comfortably before the show starts.
- Subtitles: Operas are often performed in their original language. Most opera houses provide subtitles, so take advantage of them to understand the lyrics and dialogues.
- How to Appreciate the Music: Familiarize yourself with the music beforehand if possible. Listen to some of the famous arias or melodies from the opera to enhance your appreciation of the performance.
- How to Behave: Opera etiquette is important. Turn off your phone, avoid talking during the performance, and clap during appropriate moments such as after arias or scenes.
- How to Focus on the Stage: Use binoculars if you're seated far from the stage to get a closer view of the performers' expressions and details of the set.
- Share the Experience: Invite friends or family to join you. Discuss the opera afterward to share thoughts and insights, enhancing the overall experience.
Remember, opera is a unique and immersive art form. Embrace the experience, immerse yourself in the music and drama, and let yourself be transported by the magic of every West Australian Opera performance.
