CARMEN HEADER 1920 x 1280

Presented in association with Perth Festival

7.30pm Friday 25 & Saturday 26 February 2022

Summer nights in Perth set the stage for searing Spanish passion, as West Australian Opera presents Carmen at the iconic WACA Ground over two spectacular performances on Friday 25 and Saturday 26 February 2022.

This large-scale outdoor arena event of Bizet's indisputable masterpiece, Carmen, is beautifully presented with all the trimmings and performed by over 150 singers and musicians.

Perth’s historic cricket ground, scene of many epic sporting moments, now plays host to the dramas of love, betrayal, celebration and tragedy from one of opera's greatest stories.

Carmen is a bold, daring working class woman living life as a free spirit. She sets her sights on Escamillo which incites jealousy in her powerful lover Don José. Hatching a plan to end this epic love triangle and gain her freedom, will the fiery Carmen outsmart Don José? Or will her betrayal lead to shocking consequences?

Australian singers bring this memorable story to life through arias such as the famous Habanera and the Toreador's Song. Carmen is made possible by the talented local ensembles of the West Australian Opera Chorus, the WAO Children's Chorus and full might of the West Australian Symphony Orchestra.

Carmen presented by West Australian Opera is on Friday 25, Saturday 26 February 2022 at the WACA Ground.
