Musical Theatre lovers are in for a treat this June when The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) and ECU present Crazy for You at His Majesty Theatre from June 11th–17th.

This Tony award-winning comedy musical is packed with some of the best-loved songs of Ira and George Gershwin – two legendary songwriters synonymous with the sounds and style of the Jazz Age.

Performed by WAAPA’s Musical Theatre students, Crazy for You will be directed by Crispin Taylor, with music direction by Craig Dalton, choreography by Jayne Smeulders and set design by Matt Raven.

“This is the ultimate musical,” says director Crispin Taylor.  “The songs are absolute classics, it’s full of flashy dance numbers, and the costumes and set are lavish.”

Crazy For You is a classic ‘boy meets girl, boys falls in love, boy messes it up and spends the rest of the show trying to win the girl back’ tale.  Well-to-do New Yorker Bobby Child works as a banker, but longs to be a performer.  When he is sent to Nevada to foreclose a rundown theatre he falls in love with the local postmistress Polly. Bobby decides to produce a show to save the theatre.

“The sheer scale of this production – the size of the cast and orchestra, plus the multitude of production and design students working so hard behind the scenes – is staggering. I feel like a general commanding an army!”
