One of the many success stories to come out of the Ali Roberts Studio is that of student Amelia Kelly. Amelia started classes when she was just 6 years old, under Ali's guidance, she developed the skills and confidence she needed to pursue acting as a career. Today, Amelia is a successful actor best known for her performances in the TV series The Heights (ABC). Amelia credits much of her success to the training she received at the Ali Roberts Studio. "Ali was not only my drama teacher, but she was also my mentor," she said. "She helped me to build the foundations of my craft and gave me the confidence to pursue my dreams."

Q+A | Amelia's Acting Journey

How long have you been acting?

Ten years. I started training when I was four and booked my first commercial when I was 6.

How often do you attend classes?

Every week I have acting and accent classes which are lots of fun with my acting friends!

What projects have you worked on?

I played Frankie in The Heights (ABC) filmed in Perth and worked on short films, web series, voiceovers and commercials.

What is it like working on-set experience?

I love being on set! You work so closely with a wide variety of crew and cast working hard to make something really beautiful, to the point you often become a second family.

How do you cope when you don’t book a role?

I’m not going to lie but it’s tough. I’ve had call backs in LA for Secrets of Sulpher Springs (Disney) and Paper Girls (Amazon). You have to accept that you weren’t right for that role, move on and prepare for the next opportunity.

What is something you have learned/gained through acting?

Resilience. As an actor, you get your fair share of rejection. It helps you not just in the industry but in everyday life to build a thicker skin. To push through and take the rejection and turn it into something that makes you stronger is extremely valuable in my point of view.

What advice you could give to an aspiring actor?

Give acting classes a go. You’ll develop your confidence and make new friends.

This boutique acting and performing arts school is renowned by the Australian screen industry for not just training actors for stage and screen careers, but also, preparing them for the challenges of the entertainment business.

The Ali Roberts Studio caters to students of all ages and abilities, from children as young as five to adults.
