Time with friends and family is so important to kids and teens.

But people living with Type 1 Diabetes often miss out on social or sporting activities, leaving them feeling isolated, lonely, or ‘different’ from others.

Fortunately, the Type 1 Diabetes Family Centre knows it doesn’t have to be this way!

It’s why they developed a fantastic range of kids and teen events to enable young people to live rich and fulfilling lives.

Created by a passionate team, the Family Centre’s events are varied and engaging. They range from fun educational activities, such as Kids in the Kitchen cooking classes, to exhilarating sporting events including surfing classes!

The Family Centre run camps for teens and kids, in-centre activities, outdoor events, parties and get-togethers. All the activities offer great opportunities to socialise and connect with other people their own age.

By joining a Family Centre event, kids and teens will meet new people, make new friends, and engage with a community of people who ‘get’ diabetes.

They’ll feel truly welcomed at a Family Centre event, as part of the type 1 tribe.

Babysitters' & Carers' Education

Babysitters' Education is a short workshop designed to train friends and family to confidently babysit a child with type 1 for a 3-4 hour period. We know that teaching others how to manage type 1 can be a difficult and emotionally draining experience for parents, and our Babysitters' Education can help upskill your network and take the pressure off parents.

Likewise, people in day-care centres, after-school centres, or other carers can lack confidence in managing what is a complex condition.

First, we work with the child's parents to ensure our training manual is specifically tailored to their child's needs, and then we educate the family's nominated babysitters. We deliver the key messages in a simple way, supported by a published resource that can be referred to later.
