At St Stephen's School, lifelong learning is more than a motto, it's the essence of their educational ethos.

Education at St Stephen's School extends beyond the confines of traditional academics and expectations. The school's philosophy is deeply rooted in the belief that learning is an endless adventure, rich with opportunities for personal growth, discovery, and enlightenment. With a curriculum designed to nurture intellectual curiosity, St Stephen's offers a broad spectrum of subjects and innovative programs that encourages the individual student to explore, question, and connect with the world around them.

At the core of St Stephen's approach is the integration of critical thinking and problem-solving skills, preparing students not just for academic achievements but for real-world challenges. This holistic educational experience is complemented by a supportive environment where each student's unique talents and interests are recognized and cultivated.

St Stephen's School offers the opportunity for all our students to find the educational pathway that is right for them, be it ATAR or vocational education and training (VET).

In their VET program students can attempt a variety of qualifications as part of their upper school pathway and, 2023 Carramar Year 12 student, Taylor Drummond chose to pursue not one but two Certificate IV level qualifications.

Taylor explains, “I’ve now got a Cert IV in Business and a Cert IV in Education Support”.

“I always wanted to go to uni to do business and teaching, and our Careers Advisor, Mr Crewe told me about the VET pathway where I could go to TAFE on Fridays. He suggested that becoming a teacher’s assistant would give me a feel for what it’s like to be a teacher, while having some flexibility if I decided I didn’t want to go to university”, said Taylor.

“Now I’m hoping to go to Murdoch University where I can study to be a primary teacher but also a Physical Education teacher for primary and secondary. I did placement at a primary school and it really confirmed that this is what I want to do. All I need is my two Cert IV qualifications and to graduate high school”.

Completing two Certificate IV qualifications while completing Year 12 was not without its challenges, though!

“The Cert IV in Business was at school and the Education Support Cert IV was at TAFE on Fridays, so when I had my study periods at school, I really had to use that time to do TAFE work. I really needed to be disciplined and stay on top of things, especially when I was on placement.”

“Now when I plan out work I have really good habits from the TAFE work”, said Taylor.

The VET pathway is definitely one that Taylor would recommend to other students.

“It was good for me to know that I could still get into the course I want at uni without doing ATAR. My advice is to see what your options are with and without ATAR subjects, with help from your Careers Advisor”.

Taylor's story is not uncommon, with many current and past St Stephen's School's students being willing to share their stories about life and career journeys since leaving the confines of the school's gates.

Principal's Welcome | Mrs Donna Beare

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to St Stephen’s School.

We are a Christ-centred, student-focused and community-based School. Our personalised approach to learning and strong tradition of high-quality teaching encourage St Stephen’s School students to lay foundations for their chosen pathways.

Students flourish when values are aligned and the relationship between home and school is strong.

We welcome not just students but their whole families into our close-knit community. Together we cultivate success and produce mature and balanced young men and women.

The School’s motto to Serve God, Serve One Another is supported by our Service Learning program where St Stephen’s School students work with groups and communities on a local, national and international scale, to make their world a better place. These service opportunities, combined with our mission to inspire learning that transforms lives, shape our students into well-rounded graduates, ready to take their next step into the world.

Academic results provide a great foundation, and are encouraged at St Stephen’s School. However, it’s qualities like flexibility, teamwork, service, leadership and humility – all acquired from a St Stephen’s School education – that prove most attractive and sought-after by employers in this constantly-changing world.

As a parent of two wonderful girls myself, our goal is to provide your child with a place where they belong to a community that gives them the best platform for their future.

I encourage you to attend one of our School tours where you can meet staff, talk to students and see the facilities and talents of our community.

I hope to see you soon.
